Fire Door Guards

How many times do we see a fire door wedged open by a fire extinguisher or a door wedge? This neat little device allows you to (legally) keep your fire door wedged open during normal business hours and out of business hours if you wish.

It operates and functions by ultrasonic sound, if you have your door wedged open by a door guard and the fire alarm is activated the door guard receives the acoustic signal of the alarm and around 15-20 seconds later the internal trigger mechanism releases the bolt on the floor in turn allowing the fire door to close independently.

It is conveniently installed by four screws around the same position as where any wedge would be, it can also be programmed to automatically release at varying times such as out of hours without you having to worry about closing all the fire doors during closing time.

The door guard is a very good investment, especially if you prefer your internal fire doors throughout your office or premises to be left open during normal business hours, fire officers do not like to see the doors being wedged open by any other products, if they find other forms of wedges they will confiscate them for you.

Why is it important to keep fire doors closed?

A critical element of safety in buildings is the provision of fire resisting compartment walls and floors. They reduce the chance of fires becoming large and prevent rapid fire spread, which could trap occupants of the building.

Fire doors of the appropriate design are key to this principle, as they maintain the continuity of the fire separation under fire conditions and allow access for people and objects to move throughout the building during normal operation. Fire doors are complex products, however. Every component – the door leaf or leaves, the frame in which the door is hung, essential hardware, intumescent and smoke sealing devices – must be correctly designed and installed.
